Egelsbach

Date of Visit = July 2000

Pilot: = Geraint Pinches

e-mail = geraintpinches@genie.co.uk

Field Report = We flew to Egelsbach in a Piper Warrior in July 2000, as a refuelling stop en-route to the Czech Republic.

Egelsbach is about 15 miles south of Frankfurt but only a few miles SE of Frankfurt International (so stay below Frankfurt's controlled airspace with a base of 1,500 feet, talking to Frankfurt Radar on 118.77).

The field is clearly the main GA centre for Frankfurt and has a 900 metre hard runway, but with train power lines at one end.

The staff were very pleasant, spoke excellent English (including on the radio) and were very helpful. Landing cost £8.04 and fuel approx 98p/litre at time of visit.

There is also a very good restaurant on the airfield and it is great fun sitting outside in the warmth during the summer whilst eating and watching the aeroplanes in the circuit. Customs on site during aircraft operational hours.

Call Egelsbach Info on 130.90 when released by Frankfurt Radar.
