Chateau La Chassagne LCLC |
Date of Visit = July 1999 Pilot: = John Webb e-mail = jwebb@i-o.com
Field Report = This destination is everything it is cracked up to be and more. For something special it is hard to beat. The hotel, the food and the overall facilities and service were first class. Michael Dresen, the co owner, met us at the parking (all of 200M) in a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud and my wife, whose 50th birthday we were celebrating, opened the champagne with the traditional sword. Every detail was spot on and nothing was too much trouble. The strip was challenging but not too bad and the extensions at each end are not available yet. The new grass is still growing and I doubt will be ready before next year. However the power cables at the western end are now buried although one tower remains albeit not in line with the runway. Watch the density altitude! It is 1120 ft AMSL and was 30C when we were there which puts density altitude over 3000ft. There is a good valley to fly up or circle in if climb performance isn't sparkling. Well recommended...I'm saving up to go back already!! And it is only 2h20 from LFAT at 90kts.
