Field Report = After landing at Rennes (Northern France) for customs purposes, we were looking for somewhere to stay the night on the way to Spain, so we made our way to a small grass field at Fontenay le Comte, level with Poitiers. It proved an excellent campsite, and it was nice to be somewhere warm for a change - we had had nothing but bad weather so far.

In the twilight, we watched giant Transylvanian bats swooping on buzzing swarms of big, furry cockchafers. It was friendly and laid-back - no-one was bothered at us turning up unannounced at sunset. There was no landing fee to pay, though the saving was offset by a brush with the Minitel in search of weather information and Tour de France notams, which set us back £5.

The next morning I went foraging for breakfast, across the main road to the north of the field, through the model aircraft flying area, and found a large supermarket, which yielded up all sorts of goodies. Definitely recommended!
