Tours St Symphorien   LFOT

Date of Visit = Various

Pilot: = Nigel Webb

e-mail = nigel@warp9.org

Field Report = Tours is a joint military/civil airfield with a single enormous runway 02/20. Despite the military presence (it is a fighter training school), the field welcomes GA traffic and has newly refurbished its terminal buildings to help make the point.

Parking is on the ample civil apron, where you should aim to park next to the grass edges.

The control zone (D) surrounding Tours is not active during weekends, and even during the week, access is easy to obtain on the approach frequency. The VFR routes are rarely used, and most clearances are direct to the field.

Tours itself is in the middle of the Loire Valley, so that good food and wine are easy to come by. Of special note is the Restaurant/Hotel  Jean Bardet which was voted best restaurant in France three years ago.

Hotels are again easy to find, but the Holiday Inn at the Station is one of the most convenient (+33 2 47 31 12 12)
