Field Report = Quimper is an easy stride into France from Jersey or Guernsey. Located in the centre of Brittany it forms a great base for a long weekend in the town of Quimper and its surrounding villages. Particularly worthy of a visit are Pont Aven, and Concarneau.

The airfield itself is typical of many French fields, designed for frequent commercial flights, but in reality welcoming one jet a day in peak season. This notwithstanding, the international-scale terminal comes complete with car hire, shops, and restaurant.

Parking your plane is easy, and customs are available with the usual warning. Air traffic control is minimal during weekends and the controlled airspace around the field is navigable without fuss. The landing fee (around £13 for a Beech Baron) is quite reasonable.

Restaurants worth a visit include L'Ambroisie (+33 2 98 95 00 02), and in Pont Aven Le Moulin de Rosmadec (+33 2 98 06 00 22).

I have always rented houses while staying in the region, but friends recommend the the Quimper Novotel (+33 2 98 90 46 26)
